My heart mourns, but who would understand?

I have compassion for the lost, those who are in hurt, in need, in bitterness

I pray that one day, you would come to Christ, one day, your whole family be saved

I pray that gospel that I share, the love that I show, would not be said of me, but rather point you to Christ.

This post is dedicated to a aunty I know, she and her husband have gone separate ways,

her 3rd daughter, divorced; 2nd son's marriage in jeopardy; eldest son just married, baby just reached a month old, now they are filing for divorce.

Family curse ?

I do not underestimate the work of the devil, but I know,

I have a Greater God,

God would stomp the devil under His feet, and nothing, no curse can bind anybody,

Because Jesus lives

But I see many in bondage, not because my God is not Great, because we don't want help, we think we can manage our problems on our own.

Do you not hear the cries of those in pain, in sorrow, in bitterness ?

Are you oblivious to the fact because it is not you that is in the situation ?

Do you not care?

My heart weeps and my soul is bitter.

I have done what I can. But unless the Lord builds the house, the builders build in vain (okay, not a good verse)

My point is, human efforts are futile and meaningless unless God intervenes

Yesterday I went to the library to renew the borrowing of a textbook, after scanning the book, the librarian told me that I cannot borrow the book any more

Librarian: Your student ID expires on 23/5/2011, and because each borrowing period is 2 weeks, the book would have passed the 23 if you were to renew it. You have to go DSA and extend/renew (something like that) the date, only then can you borrow the book

Me: But I just need it for my exam 2 days away, Can I un-return it then pay a fine for it after my paper ?

Librarian: No, I'm sorry, I have already scanned the book, you would have to follow the normal procedure, go DSA and get it done

Me: But by the time I did that my exam would be over

Librarian: Sorry, have to follow the rules

On another thought, all these means I would only have less than 2 weeks left in UTAR, I'm going to leave this inefficient, troublesome and highly procedur-ized university

The Eclectic Theory of Personality

The Eclectic Theory of Personality

The eclectic theorists hold to the fact that no one theory of personality can encompass each and every person. The mind is not like a mathematic formula that will react in a certain way given a certain stimuli. The mind is much more complex and cannot easily be understood. Thus we have Theories of personalities instead of the facts and empirical formulas of personality. The Eclectic theorist believe in a synergistic personality theory. Synergism in the case of personality theory, is the belief that no one theory is entirely correct. It takes two or more theories to produce what one, by itself, cannot produce. Since personality theory is not an exact science it would seem ludicrous to narrow the field to what one or even two theorist believe to be true.

Bob Cave: Biographical Background (1955- )
Born in the small New England town of Warwick, Rhode Island, into a navy family, Cave was destined to move often during his childhood. The second born of six children in a family with a father seldom home due to sea duty and a third generation alcoholic. He would grow up knowing he was responsible for his younger siblings. Physically he was a small child and would try throughout his adolescence to make up for the size deficiency by portraying himself as bigger, faster, and more adventuresome than others. An average student in high school, Cave found emotional fulfillment on the wrestling team. The sport itself placed the small and large on equal ground. Cave found a great deal of pleasure in wrestling those in his weight class. During his sophomore year Cave would be changed forever through an encounter with the person of Jesus Christ. The change was immediate, and long lasting. The anger and resentment which he felt due to his father's absence and his physical limitations left him. It was replaced with a peace and contentment never before experienced. After graduating high school Cave began work as a youth minister and has continued this work for over 20 years. Cave has a B.A. from MidAmerica Nazarene University, and a M.A. in Family Therapy from Friends University in Wichita Kansas. Currently he is the Senior Pastor at Faith Chapel Assembly of God and has a private practice in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as teaching Marriage and the Family at MidAmerica Nazarene University. His theories of personality have been enhanced by watching hundreds of young people in and through the developmental stage of personality.

The Psychosocial Stages of Development
The blending together of both Freud's psychosexual stages and Erickson's psychosocial stages, has given theorists the ability to draw upon a middle ground. Cave's Eclectic Theory believes that both sexual and social stimuli are responsible for the child's development. In the early years one learns about his or her sexuality and how it relates to those around them. As sexual beings we explore and experiment within our own social structures. If children are not allowed to explore, if it is socially unacceptable to do so, problems can occur and confusion will most likely result.

Birth Order
Along with the psychosexual and psychosocial stages of development birth order is a significant factor. It is generally thought that a child born first is more responsible and dependable because of the ordinal position of first. This child naturally helps rear the others who joined the family after the firstborn. The middle child is always trying to catch up with the eldest. They are very competitive and motivated and often will try and out do the eldest in order to put themselves on top. The youngest child in the family is the baby, they are protected more by the other siblings. They may become more dependent on others throughout life. Although birth order as seen by Cave is significant, when a parent within the family is absent, divorced, unavailable or dies, the entire family experiences a paradigm shift. The birth order becomes even more significant in this event. The eldest by virtue of their ordinal placement, begins to over compensate for the missing parent. This changes the entire dynamic of the family. It is not birth order alone but it is the family structure, or as Adler would say the family constellation. Children are wonderfully adaptive. They will bounce, shift and move within the family structure in order to meet their own needs and the needs of the family. This happens many times sub-consciously.

The Need For Love and Acceptance
This is the overshadowing need of mankind according to Cave. Unlike Abraham Maslow, who feels that the safety needs are first and foremost, Cave feels that one must have a sense of love and belonging. If a child knows that they are loved and accepted unconditionally by the parents, they will be able to endure almost any difficult circumstance. The Jews who were persecuted and killed by the Nazi's were still able to be hopeful and productive while the family was still together. When they were split up hopelessness and despair was experienced by all. These Jews had little of their safety needs met but they were still able to function as long as the family provided for them these essential ingredients. Coming from a family with the net of love and acceptance underneath them, the children are able to step out and risk more in order to reach their goals. They experience a freedom to become what they dream . They have the belief that failure is not fatal, and their mistakes will not ruin them.

More than any other factor love and acceptance provide for a positive, enthusiastic, well balanced personality. The lack of it can be low self-esteem, an inferiority complex, an inability to make decision, and many other maladaptive problems.

The power of acceptance cannot be underestimated. Acceptance has incredible potential for the developing personality. The lack of acceptance can become problematic. If a person is always seeking acceptance, they can be swayed and manipulated very easily. It is easy to imagine scenarios where one is taken advantage of because of their adult needs for acceptance. These scenarios can be eliminated for the most part if acceptance is granted early in the child's development.

Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy according to the Eclectic model, varies from patient to patient. Some may need the psychoanalytic approach of Freud or the Rogerian approach of client- centered, non-directive psychotherapy. Recently Family Therapy has been most effective in dealing with the emerging self in the context of a family. As with most aspects of this theory there is not one method to be used for all cases. Each case must be handled carefully and evaluated using criteria from several different theories in order to know the best treatment for the patient. The drawbacks to this type of therapy is it may take several sessions in order to make that evaluation. The therapist may not be able to effectively administer the needed help and should feel free to refer to someone with that specialty. Not every therapist can help every patient. It is essential to know one's limitations. In any kind of therapy the basic needs of love, sometimes labeled as empathy, and acceptance should be present. The patient needs to feel the net underneath them in order to trust the process and the therapist.

Self-Actualization: The Psychospiritual Model
The most controversial aspect of Cave's work is the idea of Self-actualization (like that of Maslow's) and the Psychospiritual Model. Most theorists overlook the spiritual aspect of the individual. Man has a natural void in his life that he cannot fill with the greatest upbringing, environment, and perspective on life. The void is a place designated for worship. To be self-actualized, according to Cave, a person must be able to respond to this natural void through relationship with God. With this self-actualization comes the knowledge that we are just creatures, we are not gods. We will not have all the answers to the questions of life. Many times the best psychotherapy we can have is an encounter with a power greater than ourselves. Someone who can bring order to chaos, love to bitterness, health to the sick. Carl Jung's views of the collective unconscious can be explained by the fact that we were created by one God for His purposes. We all have very similar needs. These needs are known as man's psychospiritual needs. Some theorists believe that getting in touch with your feelings is helpful, and to this Cave agrees. But it should not stop there. Just as with the familial needs of love and acceptance, we must come to the realization that God is able to offer them in the purest sense. Man can only strive to copy these attributes of God. God's love is ultimately unconditional and accepting. We can come to Him with flaws and failures and be embraced through our imperfection.

The Real Self and The Ideal Self
The real self as Karen Horney would say "are those things that are true about us. The ideal self represents what we wish to become." The real self is an honest self appraisal as to where we are at this point. It includes our flaws and weaknesses as well as our strengths. The ideal self is that which we strive for, and perhaps may never reach. Unlike other theorists Cave suggests that we can and will be able to reach the ideal self but not in the present as we know it. It will be realized when our lives are perfected through the fulfillment of our relationship with God. In other words in heaven, with God, we will reach our full potentiality and become as the Bible says, "like Him." This should in no way discourage people from becoming the most idealized person they can become here and now. This future idealized self is the hope within us.

Summary
1. The Eclectic Model of personality theory borrows from many different theorists. It contains the ability to allow for individuality and flexibility.

2. Cave believes that birth order is significant to the developing personality.

3. The Psychosexual and the Psychosocial stages are believed to be significant to the person's emerging personality. A balance is sought between the two.

4. Love and acceptance are the cornerstone of personality development. These supersede Maslow's safety needs as foundational for development.

5. Self-Actualization and The Psychospiritual model suggest that in order to be self-actualized a person must explore their spiritual nature and fill the void of worship.

They took at least 10 mins to notice we (me and than foong) were sitting there
talk about bad service !

There's a story I wanna tell, there was this certain girl and boy, they came to know each other through a bunch of friends in church, after a long time of knowing each other, one day the boy decided to invite her for a movie and lunch, after that, they became fond of each other, they celebrated birthdays and festives, spent hours together, even during time of "crushing assignments". after awhile, he had to move to another state to study, life had to move on.

She had drew away from God slowly and silently
She hoped that somehow among the multitudes, God wouldn't notice
Backsliding had became complacent
Dangerously comfortable

She wanted a relationship that is pleasing to God
Firm and strong in Christ
She tried having bible study and prayer together with him
But it was droning and lifeless
He was reluctant
She was not persistent
She gave in
and backslided

One day, she went to a camp, talked to God
She felt ashamed and disgraced for hiding from God
even while serving in so many areas in the church
She felt like a hypocrite, a fool
It has been too long since she replaced God with the relationship
She knelt down
and cried

Nothing is permanent in life, nothing is constant, the only thing constant is change.

He threw tempers at the tiniest things, she tolerated
She was superbly long winded, he listened without a word
She became tired, and changed
To him she became boring

She was feeling weary of the relationship

Going through a tough time recently, well, not all that tough. my life is filled with never ending jounals, assignments, exams, discussions and presentations. Just finished a very tough presentation and assignment today, so relieved.

All the assignments and not that bad, I am naive in saying that my life is stressed and I have many problems. All my problems now only exist to educate and improve me as a person.

What is assignments and mid terms compared to those who don't have the chance to study? Think about it.

Why are we complaining that we need so many journals just to write an assignment? How about those who don't have any eyes? They can't even read (well yes they can, but that is special books for blind people), they won't ever have the pleasure to access information like we do. Internet and computers? Well lets not talk about that.

You say you have peer pressure, you can't fit in (speaking in general, not referring to anyone), what about others who are even less fortunate ? Children lying in hospitals, suffering from all kinds of sickness? Some say you have low self esteem, so why can a man with no hands and no legs be so confident? Assurance that even goes to the extend of encouraging others.

You say you don't have anyone who truly understand you, have you tried to understand your friends? Or do you care only for the concern of others? HAHA, there is a term describing you people, it's called ATTENTION SUCKERS.

You say you don't have iPhone, a car, nice laptop, branded clothes, a DSLR camera, life is a dread, no one is treating you fair; oh, you so don't want me to compare on this.

So tell me again, what are your troubles?

I noticed Utar and Ktar people are so typical, you know, they have that look, they talk a certain way, they dress in a certain way, they like to group into gangs, and ya, everybody is dating. It's so TYPICAL

I am a Utarian also, but then, everybody is so conformed to the Utar culture that I'm getting sick of it. Yes, I too am guilty of the above, but then..... I'm sick of the whole idea of Utar culture, everybody is just so .... SAME

So Chinese ~ though there is absolutely no problem in that, I want something different.

My views about him have changed little by little over this short period of time
I hear alot and try to be open about people's views

Turns out he's not that bad after all, he just have REALLY high expectations and want everybody to become a scholar like him

Not everybody is good in their studies, not everybody likes spending hours and hours reading journals.

Accept differences

A lecturers role is to guide and teach, not hammer the students until they have no life apart from doing assignments and reading journals.

Many times have I been GREATLY tempted to skip CF (Christian fellowship)

I have my reasons

My class ends at 8pm
I have 3 classes for the day
I'm in 3rd year, and my assignments are a heavy load
FYP, explains for itself, just plain hard

But I faithfully bump into Melody every tuesday, during 6-8pm class

So I made up my mind, to go there, not enjoy myself, not talk to anybody, show a tired face and go home.

But God had different plans.

I went there not expecting anything, yet I came back being encouraged and given some things to reflect upon.

I think alot. And when I don't find anybody that has the time to listen or would listen to me, I write it in this blog .... haha

Today the speaker was our beloved Ps Yong Wai Yin. She taught about devotion

The moment she went up and told us the topic of the day, I went "Oh No, I seriously lack devotion"

Devotion is spending time with God, being in His presence.

God gave us 24 hours a day, and I cannot even spend half an hour with him, I am ashamed.

Can one be in a relationship and not talk to or think about each other for a day? What more when He is our creator ?

Cheng Yee's (hope I spelled it right) testimony was inspiring, I can see God's timing and purpose in every situation. AWESOMENESS

Come to think of it, I feel too independent until I don't need God sometimes. We were taught that being self reliant is good, but then where do we put God?

Lectio Divina (Italian) is to listen deeply, to hear with the ears of our hearts
So pastor read a passage from Isiah
So I heard this : through the waters, I will be with you, thorough the rivers, I will be beside you, through the fire, I will not forsake you, the flame shall not overcome you (something like that la, I typed this out from memory, maybe later only I check and type out the correct one. )

I have been burdened and worried about my studies, and taking up too many things to do, now with my packed schedule, I'm finding it hard to cope

But God would always be with me, no matter the situation, through water, river and fire, even flame, He is my God who would not leave me nor forsake me

I shall not magnify my problems, I shall magnify God

For what good worry can bring me?

Worrying is like a rocking chair, you ain't gonna go nowhere

Practicality vs Dreaming Big

I have a really cool lecturer named jason, he once said

"students who go out to work are like fresh and green vegetables,
when they go out into the working world; some become like carrots,
they start off hard, then once they are immersed in hot water they become soft;
some are like eggs, once soft in the inside, when in hot water, become hard;
but we ought to be like coffee beans, to influence our surroundings, the more you boil, the stronger the scent of the coffee, sweet smelling aroma, fragrant"

Our lecturers inspire us to dream big, touch the sky, be different.

People who work outside tell us that the working world is not easy, even surviving is tough, let alone dreaming big.

Another issue that has bothered me recently is about the future.

I have always wanted to join Malaysian Care to reach out and help the poor and needy, when I see children begging for money, poor people working like a cow just to earn the little that is feeding the family, old people being abandoned, I am always moved to tears, I want to do something, I want to make a difference in the lives of these people, I will find a way and I can do it. But the issue is if I go in as a volunteer, who is going to sustain me? Am I going to rely on my parents to feed me until I grow old?

On the other hand, I am planning to get a full time monday to friday 9 to 5 job after I graduate, then take over the management of my father's business, teaching arts, to pass on what is going to be a dying trade in malaysia. I want to do business, earn money, get on with a better life, I could also support the church monetarily. That's the whole purpose I study Entrepreneurship in UTAR right? To do business.

Pardon me on my foul language, but I've met this surprisingly irritating lecturer, hate shouldn't be the word for it, it should be, I loath darren.

Darren, please keep your opinions to yourself, we don't need to hear them, you come in the tutorial class late, and comment on how stupid your students can be, why don't you look into the mirror and wonder who taught this bunch of students?

You wasted our time telling us your stories, don't finish the lecture and expect us to study on ourselves, I don't mind that, but then why the hell do we come for your class then? To hear your rude remarks and stupid stories on how you curse everybody to hell? Well that's so nice.

We spent time doing your work, and if you didn't want to discuss most of them in the first place then please tell us, we have better things to do.

You said our answers should be based on facts, are yours?

You complain about everything here in Malaysia, why don't you just move to US and shut up?

You have never valued the chinese teachings, what's wrong with being chinese educated? OH, you see, we chinese are very short sighted and don't care about anything except money. SORRY to remind you, but you are chinese too.

So what if you went to US before? SO WHAT? not everybody is as privileged as you, not everybody is as rich.

Chinese new year is fake? NO, you are fake.
Some people have good and true relationships with their relatives, there is love and understanding within the family, too bad you don't have.

1. Drink plenty of water.

My WUNDERFUL car just went for repair two days ago, seems like the clutch spoiled. Costs me Rm 400 !! Summore the mechanic told me that the bearing got problem, to fix it should take around RM 100+ *faints* and then air cond refused to work, which should cost me around another RM 100+ *faints again*

Do the math, RM 400 + bearing (RM 100+) + air-cond (RM 100+) = Around RM 700

*goes into coma*

My dear nissan langley, since 1983, not that it was with me this long, but it was registered then.
Petrol costs me around RM 110 -RM 120 a month
My monthly expenses have rocketed since I got the car.
The thing is that I don't quite enjoy driving
I need the car, but I don't enjoy driving it, ironic isn't it?

Oh ya, one more thing, my exhaust has a hole in it.

Speaking as a christian, child of God, somebody I'm proud to be.

Can we boldly declare our faith?

I have a friend (non-christian) who told me, about a guy (christian) who has a "pungent" christian smell. Too strong. Is it scaring people off ? How are we to preach the gospel if people stay clear of us ?

Tell me, to what degree should we testify ? Furthermore, our freedom of speech, as quoted from my lecturer is "freedom with limitations". Of course we must do it wisely.....
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matt 10:16

In another context......
The wise don't make a show of their knowledge, but fools broadcast their foolishness. Prov 12:23

A serpent may bite when it is not charmed; The babbler is no different

Furthermore, I've always believed that action speaks louder than words.
What good is it for us to speak of God's goodness and do nothing about it ?
What kind of story do we tell people when we curse? gossip?
How would the world view us to be ? hypocrites ? pure folly ?
Or just because everybody is doing it makes it fine?

I think I'm a little too critical here, no one is perfect and no one is worthy in God's sight. Pray ye for mercy and grace that we might be slightly better each day.

Anyway, thank you pastor for answering my questions, I'm still full of questions, but at least some answers are clear now.

This post is like a collection of thoughts I just wanted to record down.

I've been emo-ing about the things I shouldn't be, I tend to think too much when I have a lot of free time, an idle mind is a devil's workshop (that's what my dad always tell me)

Wondering why things happen, wondering why people behave the way they do, why do we treat people differently? The world ain't fair, but life still goes on. Thank God that He still is in control of my life.

I'm quite occupied at the moment and find it difficult to have time with God, the theory is: "If I have time for everyone else but God, what's the point?"
But it's still hard, something seems to always pop up the moment I say :"ok, quiet time NOW"
OK, NOW, AFTER THIS BLOG POST I'M GOING TO DO MY QUIET TIME!

Hmm..... oh ya, one more thing

You see people, blogging can be very dangerous, so we must beware of what we write in our blogs, as we live in "boleh"land, we must voice out our opinions in a very subtle manner on different things that are happening around us.

DAY 1
It's 10:32pm, you called, we had this small talk on the game, can't believe you actually counted down on the number of days before I go back, awww.... so touched. Then you suggested the game and I agreed. We talked for 57 minutes and 37 seconds. It was so hard for me to put down the phone, knowing I would not hear your voice for another 10 days. Technically today is not day 1, maybe I should put it as night 1...... haha, but anyway I'm going to SUPER MISS you...... *sobs* . I deleted your number, so that I can control myself when I have the sudden urge to call you.

DAY 2
Another day of errands, I can't get you out of my mind. You are like a drug, I'm so addicted to you. And..... I also memorized your phone number, seeing that I deleted it (no point right? but anyway..... haha..... I do lots of stupid things) Missing you so much that I had to blog about it. But I know you don't read my blog...... so ... haiz.... nvm. I want to hug you, talk to you, but I had to control myself.
My results are out, I want to share this news with you, but I simply cannot, I'm beginning to think that this game is lousy.
I'm tired of going pasar malam, even shopping ! I just want to see you.

DAY 3
I'm so not used to this. Waking up in the morning and not seeing your message on my phone. I woke up especially early to check my results, haiz, "I got a B for OB !" I want to tell you, but you see......... thanks to this game I cannot.

DAY 4
Another uneventful day. I'm in day 4 and I'm still missing you, staying at home too long has really played tricks on my mind, watching movies the whole day didn't really help. Hmmm.... remember to study hard for your exam ya, remember to do quiet time.... haha..... getting more and more 'cheong hei' already.

DAY 5
When I read back on my day 1 to day 4 posts I feel like...... YER...... why I write until so geli 1 ?
HAHA...... Today I'm quite used to not talking to you, not hearing from you, not as anxious anymore. Come to think of it, sometimes my walk with God could turn into something like this too, when I stop talking to Him for a few days, it feels uneasy at first, but then later on it becomes ok, I'm used to the feeling, and if I drag on, I might even think that my life can go pretty well without God. Complacency. Dangerous.

DAY 6
Today I went to mid valley with my dearest XXXXXXX (it's complicated) to watch Avatar in 3D !!! Hah..... who ask you go and watch first..... bler. The show was really nice in 3D....! Today staying over in PJ and going home tomorrow. Wondering what you are doing nowadays...studying? facebook-ing? futsal-ing? sleeping? (by the way you sleep too much)
Anyway, 4 more days to go before I go back..... Can't wait !! HEHE

DAY 7
Yea, I'm finally at day 7. Can't believe I'm hearing myself say that I can't wait to go back to Kampar, I used to dread going back there. Sure.... Kampar is a beautiful town with wonderful people, scenery and food, but then leaving KL means leaving home, pampering (from mummy), shopping, the cinema or any form of entertainment, once you are in Kampar, you feel like you are trapped in that small small small small small (you get my point) place away from everything you have grown so used to.

DAY 8
Urgh....... 头痛的一天。太讨厌了，简单的事情都不能解决。整天吵架，烦死我了。

Helped my mom do the company accounts today, accounts are a pain! All the figures are making my head explode ! I detest doing accounts ! Salute to all accountants out there. How you people do this kind of job???? It's just plain complicated.

I had a really great time during my sem break, went to a lot of places, well not really a lot but I did plenty of shoppin !!! haha.I even worked! But then that was only for 2 days, in aunty rebecca's kindergarten.The one great part was I went Palace of the Golden Horses with my parents,stayed in the 6 star room,talk about luxury!

I started the sem with many new surprises and got myself involved in many things *cough cough*

Now I'm dead broke,my phone bill reached RM 158 (Thanks to me who kept using the phone to call),my new acoustic guitar costs RM 1500 (came with casing and a mini amp),my house rental(as usual)is RM 150,unit exemption fee for bahasa kebangsaan is RM 100 (UTAR wants to dig our pockets dry),summore this sem I'm using the car, therefore need to pump petrol,need to buy tickets to use the swimming pool,need to pay my friend for buying the swimming cap and goggles.

As you can see.....I badly need to save money,I shall cook at home and try to save up on other expenses.

Today started off lazily as I dragged my feet to class, wondering why did I even bother to go to uni as today's lecture only consist of watching other people present.But I guess "why not?", so reluctantly I went, sat on a random chair, glad that the lecturer didn't pick me to present.

Today we had a few students representing the entrepreneurship group, and a few representing marketing.The presentation went well,and I enjoyed both of them as well,one of my classmates presented also,I guess part of the reason I went was to support my classmate in presentation ! The marketing group was interesting at the same time,they had a sense of arrogance to them and named themselves the "marketing all stars"! The best part was their high tech PowerPoint,brochures and free samples,as if they were already selling the product.One thing I learnt is to treat everything you do as an opportunity to learn and not a chore, for example the presentation that the students had to squeeze out time to prepare for,and no marks are accounted for it,it is actually a really good chance to learn presentation skills and improve everytime,so that you will be prepared for the working world.

When I cycled out it was still raining,then I started regretting and used my "one hand umbrella one hand hold bicycle" skill to balance myself.

After tutorial,wanting to cycle home in the rain,an AUDI droved past and stopped nearby,out came 2 leng lui's! and while I was still ogling at the AUDI,I saw someone waving to me from inside the car....!
Shy lar,only noticed the car didn't notice my friend....
So anyway,(because it was raining)my friend fetched me home from uni,I had never felt so good for leaving my bicycle in uni before.... ahaha
THANK YOU GOD FOR THE RAIN !!!

Riding in an AUDI is like a dream come true .....

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot, and I feel kinda down, for no reason. I guess there is a time for everything, like mentioned in Ecclesiastes 3: 1-11

I’m also having some trouble finding a balance between my normal life and my Christian life, who would understand? I guess only God would truly understand what is happening, no big deal but my mood is going roller-coaster-like, one moment happy, another moment sad.

Dear Lord, speak, I’m listening.

COOKING FEVER

Recently I'm caught the cooking fever !!!!

Thanks to my dearly beloved caring parents who bought (too) many meat and veggies for me last week ........
So I (had no choice but to) consume all the food before it gets bad.

Today I cooked Ginseng chicken herbal soup, with a fried egg and rice for dinner....... !
I feel so proud of myself ! (evil laugh)

Now I understand how hard it is to cook a meal ...... thank you MAMI !!!

These are the times where you learn to be grateful for every home cooked meal and washed laundry..... for the clean floor and toilet.... for the little little thing that is done in the house......these chores seem like nothing to me before, but now when I have to do everything by myself only does it seem EXTRA....

Anyway ...... just wanna remind everybody to honor your parents and appreciate them always !

Wii went shoppin tugether n bought suuuuu many stuff !! costs RM 150
1st time I buy suuu mach staaaff since I came Kampar.
Wii din go anywhere spesial, wii juz went four dinner in old tawn.
Next day, SUNday wii went church,
then dey left me there n wen old tawn maa-cat to bie vege for miii.
Den fei miao p-pared us (mii and dadi) dinner and bweakfast.
Alas !!!! home-cuok food !!!

Recently don't like to blog because of LAZINESS !!
And I've realized that I spend way too much time on facebook...........

I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

Pay it forward is a movie about a 12-year-old's plan to make a difference in the world. Motivated by a teacher at his school, Trevor invites a homeless man to sleep in his garage. Unaware of this arrangement, his mother awakens one evening to find the man working on her truck. Holding him at gunpoint, she asks him to explain himself. He shows her that he has successfully repaired her truck and tells her about Trevor's kindness. He says, "I'm just paying it forward."

I think this is what Jesus had in mind in one of His last conversations with His disciples. He wanted to show them the full extent of His love. So before their last meal together, He took off His outer garment, wrapped a towel around His waist, and began to wash His disciples' feet. This was shocking because only salves washed feet. It was an act of servanthood and a symbol pointed to Jesus' sacrifice, passion, and humiliation on the cross. His request to His disciples was:"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet" (John 13:14) . They were to "pay it forward."

Today when I was on my way back from uni, we (than foong, chee hao, me) saw a guy pushing his bike back home through Ktar. His bike one string putus and cannot cycle back (the quality of bikes sold here is getting worse each sem.....), moreover the sun in kampar is burn-through-your-skin-as-usual HOT. Then Chee Hao went over to ask this guy what was wrong and 'teman' the guy walk home. It was not someone we or he knew either. I guess letting chee hao walk home with the guy was ok so I cycled home first.

This got me thinking.

I guess I was not a good samaritan then.......
But I did go over to ask what was the problem..... is that considered?
Growing up in KL taught me not to help people, especially when I'm alone, because there are too many schemes and plots people set up to pretend to be a person in need and then rob your stuff.
But I shouldn't use this as an excuse.
And most probably a student pushing a bike alone under the hot sun is really a student and not a robber mastermind.....lol

I don't know I should be really happy or sad.

My results for the last semester came out. 3A- , 2B+
My GPA is 3.5400
CGPA is 3.3400
I only need 0.06 more to enter Dean's list's (GPA 3.6)
Urghhh......
I know I should be happy for passing all my subjects, and don't need to repeat anything (phew...) which would cost me a bomb and consume alot of my time and energy for next semester.
But then.....
I only need 0.06 more......
How can this be ?!

But then I also want to thank God, no matter what, and helping me go through my TORTURING exams, I know I couldn't have gotten these grades by my own strength because I was sick for the whole study week, after that needed time to recover and could not really concentrate.
Went through roller-coaster emotions, missed my family, started to feel lonely and all kinds of weird stuff, started to think too much.
When I look back I realize how much God has helped me.
Another similar incident would be in primary school when I was standard 4, I was sick for a month and in the end I came out the top in the class, getting me my very first no. 1 !
I'm not boasting, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that my source of strength comes from my Lord and God, my Redeemer, my Jehovah Rah.

A Voice in the Night

"Sit up!" the voice in the night said, "and take a deep breath."

"It was a stormy night," a personal friend shared, "and we were awakened by an extremely loud clap of thunder. After the initial fright, checking the kids and the house, we went back to bed and to sleep.

"Then came the voice: I was certain I heard someone speaking. 'Sit up and take in a deep breath,' it said.

"I only half-awoke and thought I must have been dreaming, so rolled over and went back to sleep.

"The voice spoke again with more insistence, 'Sit up and take in a deep breath.'

"This is weird," I thought so again rolled over and went back to sleep.

"'SIT UP! Take in a deep breath!' the voice spoke again with great urgency.

"So I sat up and took in a deep breath … and smelled smoke!" I was fully awake in an instant … woke up my husband … rushed to wake up the children … we had the oldest one phone 911 (for emergency) … my husband took over the phone … the operator asked if the lights were working … my husband said they were going out one room at a time.

"GET OUT of the house immediately," declared the operator. Your house has been struck by lightning."

As quick as a flash the family rushed outside only moments before the house exploded and burst into flames. It took firemen six hours to put the fire out. The house was totally destroyed, but the entire family was saved. Talk about a wake-up call!

Surely this was a God-thing. Fortunately the family members were committed followers of Jesus Christ and even though they lost their house, their lives were saved. God doesn't usually speak to most of us in an audible voice. He doesn't have to because his "wake-up call" is spoken to us repeatedly in his Word, the Bible.

"Wake up!" God says to every one of us, "Flee from the wrath to come"¹ (God's judgment of sin and evil for the world that has turned from God will be judged and purified by fire). Wake up, "It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment."² Wake up, "I will come again,"³ Jesus promised "to take all who believe in me to be with me in heaven forever."

"Wake up," Jesus is coming again … it may be today. Are you ready? Again Jesus said, "I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…."⁴

Whatever you do don't miss God's wake-up call. Have you opened the door of your life and invited Jesus, the Son of God, to come into your heart and life as your God and your Savior? If not, may I urge you to do that today … right now … by praying a simple prayer such as the following:

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, I hear your wake-up call, as faint though it may be. I confess that I am a sinner and ask for your forgiveness. Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross to pay the penalty for all my sins. I invite you to come into my heart and life as my God and my Savior. semester break

I have to admit my blog is rarely updated ...... b'cuz sometimes (maybe alot of times) I lazy to blog. But now I'm once again un-rotting my blog. Hehe.
This sem break has been really fun for me, and not to mentioned very packed too !
I'm working/helping aunty rebecca to teach in her kindergarten, and helping my mom do some bookkeeping, buying laptop(conducting survey), doing some serious shopping (mid valley-went twice, sunway, thinking of going times square, sungai wang and lowyat too! ) , watching movies and went ice skating !

Teaching was fun and heart-attack-causing at the same time. Kids are hard to control and they don't really listen to me, maybe I was too gentle, but after a few days i also become garang already, forced to.....
Why are kids these days so hard to teach?

Yesterday (mon) went ice skating with si-lai tee, terowong (mei mei), shanny and wai kuan. It was mei mei's first time on ice ! She quite good ler, fell 2 times only. Then the others went slow and steady, then wai kuan is in the intermediate level, easily gliding pass all the side-clingers. Haha.
It was really nice watching all the pro-people doing spins and stunts in the middle of the ring, they look so 'yeng' !
Then shopped ALOT.....spened around RM 200 the whole day. Spending felt so good......ahhhh...

Today (tues) went mid valley watch movie with daberah, cousin dearest (Haha, geli ler). We watched Angels and demons, the movie was very very very very 'chi gek' ! We were so tensed until we couldn't even finish a shared small drink. It's mind-boggling and has a foreign high-class-ness to it, there won't be any spoilers here.... if u ask me I would say I give it 4 stars out of 5.
Recommend to watch, only condition is you have to be above 18 !

My very first midnight jog.

We went jogging at eastlake area, there was no cars and alot of bullshit (yes, bull punya shit),
the air was cool, and it was very refreshing.

After jogging then 'keng gai' abit...... reach home about 1:45am

Feel so syok after running/jogging.

It's refreshing after all the suffocating boredom here

While jogging I just want to forget all my troubles, frustrations, useless worries

who are my friends?

This was originaly written on paper on friday

This is a good time to write a story.
I' sitting alone at the ground floor of block b,
it's pouring cats and dogs outside.
My jeans are drenched, and so are my spirits
It's 6:04 m.
My friends have all gone back a few hours ago, my house mates left for home yesterday night and today morning respectively.
the campus is nearly deserted, it's all dark and they already turned on the night lights.
Every face I see now is unfamiliar. Talk about lonely!

It started out on wednesday, I'm rushing to pass up 2 of my assignments today(friday), I was SS! (short for Super Stressed)
The 2 assignments I had to pass up was law and accounting (dehumanizing subjects)

All the assignments wereonly half way done. There were 3 qestions for the law assignment, me and a friend was supposed to do Q3, then the other 2 friends do Q1. Q2 was supposed to be done together and discussed. Somehow under circumstances which I do not wish to explain, nobody got answers for Q2, and the result was I had to do it. It was not easy to do Q2, let me repeat, NOT EASY. I felt like I just got slapped in the face.

After alot of stinking hours, and having not finished law yet, I got really cranky, and my classmates from another assigment group decided to come to my house and ask me something about accounts. My brain was having difficulty shifting from law mode to accounts mode. I suddenly had alot of friends.

It feels really empty, realy.

Then with that weird feeling in my gut, I finalized Q2 of the law assignment.Then only I went to bathe at 1 am......
After that I proceeded to go through the accounts assignment. Then only did I realize, that there was a BIG problem with the accounts assignment, the figures were wrong, the analysis not complete, as a result, SS!
I only slept at 2 something in the morning.

The next day, thursday, Idecided to plough through the accounts assignment, correct whatever mistakes and edit some parts.
I skipped 2 lectures and ate my branch (breakfast + lunch) at 3.30pm.
I felt my life shortened dramatically by a few years.

吃不饱，睡不好

At night, another group member (senior) came over to my house to finish the accounts assignment.
THANK YOU, LORD!

I'm surprised that the guy was really friendly and had lots to talk about. Don't judge a book by it's cover, another lesson learnt. But then i was classified into the guai guai, silly study type girl.
Why do we streotype people?

Today, friday, I began to question myself, Who are my friends? Sometimes I feel spitefully used. People approach me when they need help, but apart from that I'm invisible.
I've always known people like these in my life, especially in secondary school.
Oh, let me see, maybe I'm too boring or stupid t be equivalent to a friend. Yes, I' depressed, and i'm venting out my frustration here.

Now it's 7:18 pm and it's still raining outside, I had managed to cycle back without being considerably wet.
I closed my eyes, trying to be strong.
Stop being so stupid, I had to tell myself

I live in a world where people constantly compare themselves with other people, it's an on-going torment, like "why is she prettier than me?","why people listen to him and not me?","why do I struggle and fail when people find it so easy to ovecome problems?","why am I so stupid?"(classic)
Comparing ourself against one another have been like the essence of our lives, if so, what meaning is there? What are we proving for?
We are never, maybe I should just speak for myself, I am never satisfied with what I have, I always have to go and compare myself with others, I'm such an idiot.
And my devotion today proved to be useful to teach me and to remind me to be thankful for what I have.

It's tempting to compare ourselves with other people.

Comparing ourselves with people can lead us down the slippery slpoe: we see what people have or don't have; we wish for what we do not have or gloat at what they do not have; eventually we fall into envy, greed, self-hatred or pride.

the process of falling into sin often begins when we measure ourselves against others. Such compulsive behaviour eventually feeds our lust and makes us proud of our possesions and abilities (1 john 2:16)

Be watchful, lest you fall into sin

when was the last time you compared yourself with others? just now? Did any of these tendancies cause you to sin?
Notice the people, time and place that cause you to measure yourself against others.
Ask Jesus to help you 'silence' these thoughts, and give thanks for the abilities of other people.

my rotting blog is finally unrotting itself now.....!!!! (ok, that sounds lame)
anyway i'll continue blogging after i go back to kampar.....cuz i got sooooooo much free time on my hands.
i got some prayer requests, so here it goes

pray for unity and peace in families
pray for healing for my aunt, cuz she had just been diagnosed with cancer ; and another aunty who has seious athsma and constipation and going for operation; and all my friends who are getting cough and flu so VERY often
pray for the salvation of my dear friends yann mei and than foong
pray for a revival that will start in each and every heart

The prayer list goes on and on, but i won't put it all down.

growing up

It's been a long time since i blogged, due to the very extremely stressful final exams that just passed. I'm grateful for being able to go to Kampar, thank God that He let me serve Him there, I actually learned alot. Growing up mentally as well as spiritually, being more independant brought me to realize how much i depended on my parents to solve all my problems for me in the past. i didn't grow much physically though, i just got skinnier and darker (which is no good) (i will never understand the people who really wants to be skinny and dark)

Anyway, I just started working and I love my job, I'm working in a law firm (kinda small but i think i can call it a firm) as a clerk. Sorting out documents and filing is the basic thing I do, I got to learn alot while working here, it's like being paid to learn.... I love it.

I got great colleagues and a really friendly boss, although I have to take the extremely crowded buses to work, have to wake up super early and eat terrifyingly expensive lunches, I think it's still worth it.

Growing old is inevitable, but growing up is optional.

Today i witnessed the terrifying damage that gossip can do. And i learned a painful lesson.
The story goes like this......A,B and C were having group discussion, they got really bored and started to gossip about people they know. D came after A left, then B,C and D continued the gossiping. But after the discussion, D went to share the gossip with her friends, which is the person that A,B,C and D were gossiping about. Then when the person, E involved in the gossip knew about it, they(E and gang) got really angry.
Cut the long story short, they nearly had a fight and everybody was upset.
don't understand? never mind........but you must remember........DO NOT GOSSIP !

Moral of story : THOU SHALL NOT GOSSIP !!!!

Ants Problem:
Keep the skin of cucumbers near the place or ant hole.

To get pure and clean ice:
Boil water first before freezing.

To make the mirror shine:
Clean with spirit

To remove chewing gum from clothes:
Keep the cloth in the freezer for an hour.

To whiten white clothes
Soak white clothes in hot water with a slice of lemon for 10 minutes 10.

To give a shine to hair:
Add one teaspoon of vinegar to hair, then wash hair.

To get maximum juice out of lemons:
Soak lemons in hot water for one hour, and then juice them.

To avoid smell of cabbage while cooking:
Keep a piece of bread on the cabbage in the vessel while cooking.

To rid the smell of fish from your hands:
Wash your hands with a little apple vinegar.

To avoid tears while cutting onions:
Chew gum.

To boil potatoes quickly:
Skin one potato from one side only before boiling.

To boil eggs quickly:
Add salt to the water and boil.

To check freshness of fish:
Put it in a bowl of cold water. If the fish floats, it's fresh.

To check freshness of eggs:
Put the egg in water. If it becomes horizontal, it's fresh. If it becomes slanting, its 3-4 days old. If it becomes vertical, its 10 days old. If it floats, it's stale.

To remove ink from clothes:
Put toothpaste on the ink spots generously and let it dry completely, then wash.

To skin sweet potatoes quickly:
Soak in cold water immediately after boiling.

To get rid of mice or rats:
Sprinkle black pepper in places where you find mice or rats. They will run away.

bicycle accident 2

4th August 2008, Monday

Today I nearly got into 2 bicycle accidents, first was on my way to school, a girl was riding her bike without looking in front, coming from the opposite direction, I already slowed down and moved towards the side, but apparently she was looking at her tag or shirt or something… then she banged me slightly on my right pinkie, it was no big deal but I’m going to have a lump on my finger tomorrow, if didn’t slow down or move towards the side, we were going to collide and both of us would be in trouble. Second incident was on my way back from school, a “smart” guy was practicing riding the bike without holding the handles, meaning=no hands, he swayed from left to right to left, well you get the idea…then at one point when he slowed down I gained speed to ‘cut’ him, he couldn’t really control the bike and nearly crashed into me, good thing he braked in time,
Or else I would have another set of injuries. Now I’m sick and wounded, I just want to be left alone. Go away.

Hear children worship

In Wesley Methodist church of Kampar, I’m serving in the children ministry once again, it’s part of my life and I really enjoy the worship of little children

Matthew 21:14-16
14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.
15 But when the chief priest and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant*
16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes, Have you never read,
‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”

*indignant = angry because of an unfair situation or about someone’s unfair behavior

Children here sing with all their hearts and it really touched me when I hear them singing to the Lord, it’s so genuine, so pure, so real, no mask, no other intentions. We should learn from the children, seriously. It’s not about fancy music or about getting ourselves emotionally high, it’s just praising the God we love, the God who created us and gave us a place to belong, it so beautiful. No words can describe that kind of simple adoration.

I fell down from my bike, it’s not really painful but I enjoy people ‘sayang’ me after the fall J
I was carrying my laptop to my friend’s (turtle) house to watch a movie and to surf the web, because there is Internet access in her house. On my way there I tried to turn up to a sidewalk(in Westlake), which is slightly higher than the road (see pic) normally I would have been able to ride up straight without stopping, but then maybe the laptop was too heavy, I cannot climb the gap and my wheel banged into the sidewalk (or should I say got tangled?), then ‘BAM!’ I fell. I fell on my right cheek and my left leg was also injured, I didn’t realize the seriousness of my fall until my friend told me that my face was bleeding. Then I had bruises on both my legs and shoulder, I felt like someone had just slapped me real hard, it wasn’t excruciating pain but it was still pain lar. Good thing nothing happened to the laptop, or else I would have panicked. I was so touched when my friend (shu-huei a.k.a turtle) came to pick me up and helped me to carry my laptop, then when I went to her house she gave me some dettol to put on my face and on my knee, this made me more grateful to her. Thank God for this good friend, I pray that God will bless her, and one day she will get to know my savior which is the greatest gift of all.

When I fall,
I don’t need a friend to tell me that I’m clumsy,
I need a friend to lift me up and aid my wounds.

It’s not easy to find a friend to trust in; friends that cannot lift you out of a valley but can walk with you through it, friends that comfort you and not laugh at you, friends that don’t leave you because you are not interesting or good enough, friends that encourage, friends that pray for you……
I want to thank God for giving me such good friends in Kampar, but in the end there is no friend better than Jesus, for He changed me from the inside out, he make me able to rejoice in times of suffering because I know I can put my trust in Him, He made me strong when I’m weak, “for My strength is made perfect in your weakness”, only my God can remove my internal scars, only my God can do miraculous wonders, my God wiped away my tears and gave me a sweet to eat :-)

Sore throat + flu + going to have a fever

I’m sick…… *goo dripping out of nose* I have a MAJOR headache. I cannot think straight, I cannot walk straight, I just want to sleep. Good thing today only got 2 lectures, can ponteng J first time I got sick since I came to Kampar, I thought I was never gonna get sick, but now (wakakaka) I’m sick! Ok, my brain is not functioning properly now J I’m a little bored and I was hoping that something different would happen, maybe like GETTING SICK ahahaha. I sound plain weird *evil laugh*

Life is so peaceful here, nice scenery, it’s so pleasant, so hard to get sick, maybe there are less virus in Kampar also J but the weather this week is SO bad, there was no rain for the whole week and we felt like “steamed bao”. It’s that terribly hot sun again, and the “best” part is that we have to cycle around (Time to buy sun block…) all those who wish to get a nice tan should came to Kampar and cycle with me under the o-my-goodness-so-so-so-hot sun. WAAKAKAKAKA.

Loneliness

I feel so alone in a crowd, I feel so alone in my class, I feel so alone among my ‘friends’. Don’t know why I feel so depressed. There are so many people around, although I’m talking with them, laughing with them, I still feel so lonely. Maybe I’ve too much free time, and I’ve used this free time to become depressed. When I shared this in the cg, the advice I got was to talk to God. It really reminded me to trust God more… (thanks for the advice)

Dear Lord, You are the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the holy savior that died on the cross for my sins that I may receive salvation, my heavenly father who accepts me for who I am. I pray that You forgive me for not reading the bible everyday, forgive me for not praying when I’m supposed to, forgive me for sometimes being a bad testimony to my friends, although I try so hard not to, forgive me for delaying the gospel. I pray that You teach me to be a better disciple. I thank You for taking care of “yu zhao a yee”, thank You for making her sufferings lighter, if it is according to Your will, I pray that You remove all the cancerous cells in her body, she still has the burning passion to serve You. Oh Lord, if it’s according to Your will, heal her. She can be a living testimony, to glorify Your name. I thank You for always being there to listen to my cries, I pray that You give me inner peace to conquer all the troubles the world can throw at me, through Your mighty power I can conquer all things. I thank You for placing me in such a friendly church, with so many great people, pray that will be people after Your heart, that they may delight in Your presence, and live up to their fullest potential. Thank You for giving me the strength to continue on, keep running the marathon of my life J. I want to pray for fei miao and dadi, pray that You grant dadi good health, heal all the sickness in his body. I pray for fei miao, pray that her book will be successful, I pray that her ministry will bring You glory.
I also want to pray for Pastor Lily, grant her Your peace that surpasses all understanding, grant her a heart made of gold, grant her strength to carry on (sounds like the prayer for myself tim…) may she place all her burdens at Your feet, learn to depend on You more than anything else in the world, let her faith grow tremendously, be her Jehovah Raah, be her shepherd . I want to pray for Than Foong and Yann Mei, I pray that they will learn to acknowledge You, I pray that You will bless them in their studies, I pray that I’ll be a good testimony to them, teach me to be a salt and light unto my friends. I want to pray for dab, pray that she will grow deeper and deeper in love with You, let her desire to accomplish Your wills. I also want to pray for ama, pray that she focus on You whenever she feels alone, letting go of all the fears in life and to depend on You fully. Pray for my own spiritual life, I want to draw closer to You, I offer my life to You, everything I’ve been through, use it for You glory, Lord I offer my days to You, lifting my praise to You, as a living sacrifice, Lord I offer You my life. I pray for wisdom, I desire to know more about You, know more about Your word, sometimes I think a lot about the purpose of life, and I know everything happens for a purpose and plan, I pray that You make my life purposeful for You in Kampar, here am I, send me. Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary; pure and holy, tried and true, with thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for You. I pray for fresh anointing everyday, and desire for You more and more each day. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

UTAR=Dating agency?

One of the cultures that are growing more and more evident among universities is the dating culture, ok, I shall not speak on the behalf of all universities, but in UTAR, it’s like the hottest thing around.
There are so many couples, they are like ants, they are everywhere! I mean everywhere! There are so many that if you used a slipper to smack them, you cannot finish killing them all (They are not ants, just an illustration to show how many couples there are. All the couples out there, pls don’t get angry at me…)(maybe the reason I’m able to say this so easily is because I’m still single…hehe…) I’ve been here only two and a half months, and the number of new couples has been increasing rapidly.
Students came to university to study or to date? What is their ultimate purpose? Have they lost their focus? Are they having wrong priorities?
Are they getting too desperate? Can’t wait? Afraid if they don’t date now they will never get the chance to date? Afraid if they don’t date now they will have wasted their university life? If life were an empty piece of paper, would it be less colorful?
I’m not against dating (mind you) I’m just saying I have my priorities. God comes first, then comes my family (fei miao and dadi…I miss their nagging), then thirdly is my academic life, which is my studies, then I have my music and children ministry to take care of and maybe a bf will come after these, hehe. After that will be my other passions, guitar, running, designing and shopping?! Haha.
I’m definitely not a green-eyed monster, my point is that there is no need to put myself in a desperate situation, there are much more things more important than relationships. If I were to add one more line, I would say ‘relaaaaxxxe…man man lai’

It's a buggy world

Recently there have been a lot of unwanted visitors in my house. Ants, bees, beetles, cockroaches, ‘water ants’ (Chinese), and other weird insects, etc.

My housemates were equally freaked out. Beetles?! Cockroaches?!

First the cockroach was in my room, it traveled from under my closet to under my desk, and then it crawled onto the desk, running all around my books, until it hid in a spot which we (me and housemates) couldn’t see. We had all these ‘primitive’ ways to catch the cockroach, pail la, hanger la, we on the light, off the light climbed on the chair, jumped on the bed, even ran out of the room few times screaming. In the end, we took the insect repellent (it was the only best thing available) and ‘cincai’ spray (cuz we couldn’t see where it was)

After much spraying…… it flew !!!!!!!!!!!
That big horrible scary freaky cockroach flew!!!!

And it flew into my housemate’s room.

Wakakaka, now they are more freaked out than me……(just now laugh at me lar…)

At first we couldn’t see where it was, then suddenly we saw two antennas waving at us, then we lagi freaked out. I was praying so hard that God will command the cockroach to run into the dustbin and die of a heart attack inside. But it didn’t happen.

The cockroach traveled to the doorframe of the middle room, then my other housemate opened her door! We were more ‘gan jeung’ than she was (she just woke up and she thought the cockroach was a tiny beetle @.@ big difference k?). She was either too sleepy to be afraid or too brave to be scared by a cockroach, either way, she forced the cockroach to expose itself on open ground, and we (3 of us) took a pail and covered the fella. Well, the cockroach is not dead yet but the story ends here, cause my mid-term test is on tomorrow…!

Note: The cockroach caused me to lose concentration; I was too nervous about the bug and couldn’t study.

Prayer

As I was looking through my past devotions, I came across this verse; and it served as a very good reminder to me

James 4:3 (NKJV)
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Thinking back on how I prayed, it seems that sometimes I pray really selfishly, pray for my own needs, always complaining to God, grumbling, praying only when I need a parking or when I lose something, praying on the day before a major exam… even to my shame, I put on a mask before I seek God, prayer that doesn’t come from my heart but from what I memorized. Lord please forgive me…
When I pray I should put Jesus first, others second and myself last, then will I have true joy. And by esteeming others higher than myself, will I overcome pride.

Don’t stop praying, for it's our power!!!

1. Praying the Right Prayer
"You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

One reason we don't get some prayers answered is because we are praying the wrong prayer. Not necessarily because of a wrong motive, but because we focus our prayer on the symptom and not on the cause of the problem or illness.

There's a well-known hymn that says, "O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer." We could also sing, "O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not pray the right prayer."

For example, if I have a stomach ulcer or a headache, I tend to ask God to heal my ulcer or my headache. This is what I mean by focusing our prayer on the symptom. While some ulcers have a biological cause, some are caused not by what I eat but by what is eating me, and then what I eat aggravates the problem. I've never had an ulcer and rarely have a headache, but when I do have a headache, it's usually because I am either mad about something or am under a lot of stress.

If I am going to ask God for healing, I need to admit not only the symptom, but also ask him to give me the insight to see, and the courage to face, anything in my life that is causing my illness, and then ask him for the help to resolve it.

It is unrealistic to ask God to heal my symptoms if I fail to face and deal with the causes. If he did, he would be irresponsible. It is possible, however, to exchange one symptom for another because if we don't deal with the cause of our problem, in time it will come out another way—probably a worse way.

I recall hearing one man claim that the moment he became a Christian, God delivered him from his alcoholism. He may have quit his drinking but it was rather obvious that he was now (or still) a rage-aholic, which quite possibly was a cause behind his alcoholism.

This principle applies not only to physical ills but to many other problems as well. I learned this lesson the hard way. After many years trying to resolve a frustrating situation I was in, I begged God to give me the courage to face the truth of what I was contributing to the problem. Within two weeks I saw what an enabler I had been for so long. Once I saw the truth, I knew exactly what I needed to do, which in the doing resolved my part of the problem.

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, with every problem, illness, conflict, and challenge I face, help me to pray the right prayer and see any cause behind my sickness or problem and what I am contributing to my situation. Help me to resolve whatever cause there might be so that I will clear the way for your deliverance, healing, and freedom. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."

Do You Know How The Apostles Died?

Matthew Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopia , killed by a sword wound.

Mark Died in Alexandria , Egypt , after being dragged by horses through the streets until he was dead.

Luke- was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous preaching to the lost.

John Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution in Rome . However, he was miraculously delivered from death. John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison island of Patmos . He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos . The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve as Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey . He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully.

Peter was crucified upside down on an x-shaped cross. According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy to die in the same way that Jesus Christ had died.

James The leader of the church in Jerusalem was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club. This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation.

James the Great, son of Zebedee, was a fisherman by trade when Jesus called him to a lifetime of ministry. As a strong leader of the church, James was ultimately beheaded at Jerusalem . The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian.

Bartholomew also known as Nathaniel Was a missionary to Asia . He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey . Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip.

Andrew was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras , Greece . After being whipped severely by seven soldiers they tied his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words: 'I have long desired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ hanging on it.' He continued to preach to his tormentors for two days until he expired.

Thomas Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the sub-continent.

Jude Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ.

Matthias The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot was stoned and then beheaded.

Barnabas One of the group of seventy disciples, wrote the Epistle of Barnabas. He preached throughout Italy and Cyprus . Barnabas was stoned to death at Salonica.

Paul Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire . These letters, which taught many of the foundational doctrines of Christianity, form a large portion of the New Testament.

Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here are indeed minor compared to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles disciples during their times for the sake of the Faith.

Play with earthworms?

One fine Saturday morning I saw something that really made me feel that I was in a small town (I wanted to call it civilized perkampungan but I decided not to, in case kamparians read this)
I saw 2 little children playing in the field, playing what? Playing masak masak with their cangkul’s in the field and running around like nobody's business. They were so happy and carefree…. I wonder whether they played with earthworms anot… hmmmm… I mean most city kids grew up with computer games and television, have we not known the simpler joys in life? Like playing with worms…? aHAhahHa.

I felt I was criticizing Kampar so badly that I decide to write back something good about this place, so here goes…

10 Reasons Why I Love Kampar
1. People are friendly, hospitable and warm
2. Things are cheaper here compared to KL
3. I got my Saturdays free
4. The “Harvest” is plentiful
5. Get to meet new friends
6. Easy access to food (2-3 minutes cycle)
7. Some really cool Korean singers that comes to Kampar but don’t go to KL
8. Parents won’t scold even if I go lepak (they will never know……kekeke)
9. I learned to be more independent
10. I have my own room :-)

15 Reasons Why I Hate Kampar
1. The only shopping mall in Kampar is TESCO, unless you consider the 2 mini emporiums in old town (which mainly sells household items)
2. No cinema, no TV (absolutely dreadful right?)
3. I have to cycle, and it always seem to rain when I cycle home from school
4. My driving skills will rust real bad
5. The terrible horrible burn-through-your-skin sun rays and heat which can cook you alive
6. Very limited food choice (eat until sien d)
7. Don’t get to eat fei miao’s (mama) home cook food
8. I have to go to school in order to have Internet access (Wanted to fix broadband in the house, but it turned out to be super expensive, even after sharing. And we still have to pay when we go back to our hometowns for the 3 months holiday)
9. I have to wash my own clothes
10. All the banks are in old town and I have to cycle there if I want to do any banking stuff except cash withdrawal (There is an ATM machine in school, which always runs out of cash; one university, one machine, so many students, where got enough?!!)
11. No one to listen to my whines and complaints
12. I need to say ‘bye bye’ to marathons (not entirely, but partially lar)
a. Less training (My late classes are exhausting)
b. I have to go back to KL to join marathons
(13 and 14 should be categorized under why I hate UTAR, but I put it here anyway)
13. Too many assignments which I don’t know how to do
14. Lousy time table (Classes end really late, on Tuesday it ends at 8 pm)
15. I miss everybody in KL !!!!!

Lousey Konsortium

Today I took Konsortium from Kampar to KL. The Trip took me 4 hours.......
Because the bus driver left something at the rest stop, so he had to patah balik to look for it.
We u-turned at the Jalan Duta toll, I bet it caused the bus driver a bunch (cuz he had to pay the toll twice ) (poor fella.....haha) but it really wasted our time lo, normally it would only 2 n a half hours to travel but now it took me 4 hours...haiz.

QT is killing me

I think i'll die a early death due to QT (Quantitative Technique) Idon't know what the lecturer is talking about at all ..... !!! but today he got improve d ler......thanks to some of my veli daring classmates who told him he was utterly boring......today he tried to tell some jokes, n even had cartoon in his powerpoint slides ler !!! My exam is coming up next week n i still dun understand a thing @.@ Have to pray hard n study hard(and smart, according to than foong :-) )

Why did i do this? there is only one reason.....
cuz i was bored !
There is practically nothing to do in Kampar, no cinema, no shopping complex......even no McDonalds! Can u imagine that ?!
It's a small little town that I didn't expect to come to.But anyway i'm here now........
In Kampar i learned to be more independant, learned to depend on God more and more, I pray that God can use me to glorify His name in this place, pray that I will grow spiritually here also .
At first I told everybody that I won't blog......but then.....boredome-ness forced me to do something.....and so vuoalaaa....! My blog.....hahaha.
